Co-Curricular Activities

Ø    Six students of our college participated in Youth Leadership Training, Hiking-Trekking and Rock Climbing Campus organized by the Department of Youth Welfare, Panjab University, Chandigarh from 26th June – 5th July, 2012 at Dr. Y.S. Parmar University of Horticulture & Forestry, Nauni, Solan (HP).

Ø    PG Department of Fashion Designing organized a Window Display Competition from 1st – 6th September, 2012. A large collection based on the theme of Wildlife, Sandy Shoves presented an exquisite show.

Ø    An Inter-Class Quiz contest was organized on 14th September, 2012 to celebrate Hindi Diwas by the Department of Hindi.

Ø    Six students of M.Sc. Biotechnology (Hons.) presented posters at International Conference of Biotechnology held at Chaudhary Devi Lal University, Sirsa, Haryana on 18th September, 2012.

Ø    Department of Computer Science organized an Inter-Class Competition on 19th October, 2012 wherein contests on different categories of ‘On the Spot Presentation’, ‘Website Development’, ‘Debugging’, ‘Extempore’ and ‘Test Your Skills in ‘C’.

Ø    Our student Manpreet Kaur grabbed the 2nd prize in Folk Song category and the Quiz Team won the 3rd Prize inn Quiz Competition held at Doraha Institute of Management & Technology, Doraha on 27th October, 2012.

Ø    Ramanjit Brar clinched the 3rd position in Poem Recitation competition organized by an Organ Donation Awareness Society (GLODAS) held at BCM Arya Senior Secondary School, Ludhiana on 30th October, 2012.

Ø    Our outstanding orator Sanchita Arora won 1st prize in Debate competition, Ramanjeet Kaur won  Consolation Prize in Poem Recitation and Arshdeep won 3rd prize in Poster Making in Legal Literacy Youth Festival held at SCD Govt. College, Ludhiana on 8th November, 2012.

Ø    The eloquent speaker of the college Ramanjit Brar grabbed the 1st prize in debate competition organized by Nehru Sidhant Kendra Trust held at SDP College for Women, Ludhiana on 9th November, 2012.

Ø    In Inter-Class Declamation contest organized in the college under the auspices of Ved Prachar Mandal on 15th November , 2012 our student Sanchita Arora, Suvidha Jethi and Sheetal Gaba won 1st, 2nd and 3rd position respectively.

Ø    Our student Sarika of BA-I won 3rd prize at the Intervarsity Rangoli Competition organized by Panjab Art Council at Bathinda on 16th January, 2013.

Ø    Our student Ramandeep Brar of BA-III grabbed 1st position in Declamation Contest and 3rd position in Essay Writing in a competition held at Government College for Girls by District Election Administration marking the celebration of National Voter Day on 25th January, 2013.

Ø    Our student Suvidha of B.Sc.-II and Ramanjit Kaur of BA-III won 3rd and Consolation Prize respectively at Ramlal Bhasin Declamation Contest held at SDP College for Women on 8th February, 2013.

Ø    At SPARK ’13 organized by RIMT on 9th February, 2013, our students Pooja and Shivam of BBA-II won 1st and 3rd prize respectively under the category ‘Business Plan’.

Ø    At  two day Rose Festival organized by Panjab University Chandigarh, the college students came out with flying colours by capturing seven 1st positions in Poetry, Debate, Rangoli, Face Painting, Mehandi and Slogan Writing and three 2nd prizes in Debate, Face Painting and Slogan Writing. 

Sports

                   The sports department of the college this session too proved its mettle by adding to its glory a walloping medals and trophies. Our outstanding sports paragons solicited in numerable medals this session and emerged victorious in every championship they entered into.

·         This session our champions have clinched 80 medals in total which includes 54 gold, 15 silver and 11 bronze medals at various tournaments in diverse fields such as baseball, athletics, judo, softball, badminton, wrestling, wushu, kickboxing , ball badminton, weightlifting and power lifting at international , national, state, district, university and inter university levels.

Judo

Ø  It is a matter of great pride for the college as our student Garima Chaudhry of MA-I (Sociology) represented India in London Olympics 2012 in 63 kg.  wt. category. She is the only Judoka from the whole nation to have been selected for this competition.

Ø  College Judokas won PU Judo Championship for the 7th year consecutively by winning 7 Gold Medals out of total 8.

Ø  Three college Judokas Seema, Pooja, Babita won Gold Medal each in School District Championship held from 7th to 8th October, 2012. They also won Gold medal in their respective wt. category in School State Judo Championship.

Ø  In Sr. National Judo Championship held at Bhuvneshwar (Odisha) from 27th to 30th December, 2012. Our Judoka Manisha won Broze Medal in 78 Kg. wt. category and is also selected to attend the Indian Judo Camp to be held at Banglore.

Ø  Our Judokas Anjali and Samriti represented North India in Inter-SAI National Judo Championship held at Aurangabad from 11th to 13th January, 2013. In this competition, Anjali won a gold medal in 48 kg.wt.category and Samriti won a bronze medal in 44 kg. wt. category.

Boxing

Ø  In P.U. Boxing Championship held at Chandigarh from 6th to 8th Oct., 2012. Our boxer Ritika won Silver Medal in 75 kg. wt. category and Smily won Bronze medal in 86 kg. wt. category.

Cross-Country

Ø  The Agile Athletes Ramandeep Kaur, Prabhveer Kaur, Rajni, Rajni Bala, Ramandeep & Amandeep brought home the PU Cross Country Championship held at Chandigarh on 25th August, 2012 after a decade, as no college from Ludhiana could clinch the title since long.

Athletics

Ø  College Athletics team won the Panjab University Athletics Championship for the Second year consecutively with a huge margin by winning 11 Gold and 1 bronze medal. Ramandeep Kaur was declared the Best Athlete of Punjab University Chandigarh. Ramandeep Kaur, Rajni, Nainy Bala and Shivdeep Kau  got selected to represent Panjab University in All India Inter University Athletics Championship to be held at Kalyani University, West Bangal from 22nd to 25th January, 2013.

Ø  In Sr. Open Pb. State Athletics Championship held at Jalandhar from 1st to 3rd June, 2012, our Athlete Ramandeep won Gold Medal in 800 Mtrs., Nainy Bala won Gold Medal in 400 mtrs and Silver Medal in 200 mtrs and Gaganpreet won Bronze Medal in Hammer Throw.

Ø  In Sr. Open National Athletics Championship held at Chennai from 9th to 13th September, 2012, Nainy and Ramandeep got selected to represent Punjab State. Ramandeep was placed 4th in 800 mtrs in India. She ran alongwith Tintu Luka (Railways) an athlete who represented India in London Olympics 2012 and with other International & National reputed athletes from Railways & other Services Boards.

Ø  In Ludhiana Distt. Women Sports Festival held from 15th & 16th October, 2012 at Guru Nanak Stadium, College Athletics Team won the Championship for the 6th time consecutively with 7 Gold, 5 Silver and 4 Bronze Medals.

Ø  In Punjab State Women Sports competition held at Amritsar from 26th to 29th October, 2012, Ramandeep Kaur won 2 silver medals, Nainy Bala won 2 silver and 1 Bronze Medal, Rajni clinched one silver medal and two bronze medals. The city of Ludhiana won overall third position in the championship.

Ø  3 College athletes took part in Jr. Open Ludhiana District Athletics Championship held at Guru Nanak Stadium from 5th to 6th October, 2012.  Amandeep won 2 Gold Medals in 400 mtrs. and 1500 mtrs. and Shivdeep won 2 Gold Medals in 100 Mtrs. and 200 mtrs in u/20 age group. Sukhvir Kaur won 2 Gold medals in 800 mtrs. and 1500 mtrs. in u/18 age group.

Ø  Amandeep, Shivdeep and Sukhvir represented Ludhiana District in Jr. Open Punjab State Athletics Championship held at Ferozepur from 11th to 13th October, 2012 wherein Amandeep clinched one Gold, one Silver and one Bronze Medal. Shivdeep clinched one Gold & one Bronze Medal. Sukhvir captured one Bronze Medal in 800 mtrs.

Ø  In Ludhiana District School Zonal Tournament held at Guru Nanak Stadium from 16th to 17th November, 2012, Sukhveer Kaur won 2 Gold Medals in 800 mts. and 1500 mts.

Ø  In Ludhiana District School Inter-Zonal Tournament held at Guru Nanak Stadium from 22nd to 23rd November, 2012, college athlete Sukhveer Kaur won 2 Gold Medals in 800 mts. and 1500 mts.

Ø  Shivdeep Kaur took part in Kamaljeet Games held at Kotla Shahian Gurdaspur from 21st to 24th November, 2012. She won a Silver Medal in Long Jump and was honoured with a cash prize of Rs. 1500.

Wrestling

Ø  College Wrestlers won the PU wrestling championship for the very first time by winning 3 Gold, 1 Silver and 2 Bronze Medals. Versha, Suman and Manisha won Gold Medal each. Anjali won Silver, Ramandeep and Ekta Rani won Bronze Medal each in their respective category.

Kurash

Ø  In Senior National Kurash Championship held at Rohtak from 5th to 7th January, 2013, Suman won Silver Medal in 70 Kg. wt. Category.

 NSS Activities

                   The NSS wing of college remained on toes throughout the session involving the maximum number of students in the service of nation in the true spirit.

                  This session, a 7 day special NSS camp on the theme of Environment including Preservation of Natural Resources and Conversation of Cultural/ Historical Heritage. NSS volunteers observed special occasions such as Van Mahotsav, International Literacy Day, National Nutrition Week, Communal Harmony Week and Flag Day, World Human Rights Day, International Thelassaemia, AIDS awareness camp and also organized several blood donation camps. Students also attended a national level summer adventure camp at Shimla and national integration camp at Fatehgarh Sahib.

Ø    A Seven day Special NSS Camp on the theme ‘Environment including Preservation of Natural Resources and Conservation of Cultural/Historical Heritage’ was organized from 24th – 30th May, 2012.

Ø    While paying rich tributes to the late Prime Minister of India, Shri Rajiv Gandhi, NSS Volunteers celebrated Sadbhavna Diwas on 18th August, 2012. The programme concluded with the Sadbhavna Rally.

Ø    On 23rd August, 2012 NSS volunteers organized a plantation drive under the slogan ‘My Earth–My Duty’ and planted the saplings of trees like Neem, Sheesham, Dharek, Jamun and Sukhchain.

Ø    To make the NSS volunteers aware of adequate and right kind of diet, recipes of balanced diet were prepared by volunteers to mark the National Nutrition week on 7th September, 2012.

Ø    Celebrating the International Literacy day on 8th September, 2012, the NSS volunteers interacted with the class IV employees to make them recognize the importance of literacy.

Ø    The NSS Unit celebrated World Human Rights Day on 10th December, 2012 wherein students expressed their views and thoughts on Human Rights.

Ø    NSS volunteers observed World AIDS Day on 1st December, 2012.

 NCC Activities

                         The college cadets remained super charged round the year engaging themselves in fruitful exercises. It is a prestigious honour for the college, as our U/O Mansukhpreet Kaur and Sgt. Amarjeet Kaur were declared the best cadets during the Piloting function held at Unit premises. The NCC unit organized a number of motivational and inspirational lectures on female foeticide, drug de-addiction. NCC cadets also organized a poster making competition on the theme “My Earth, My Duty” in the college campus.

Ø    39 students attended CATC-2012 camp held at Khalsa Collegefor Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana from 8th – 17th June, 2012.

Ø    Cadety Hartshwinder Kaur (BA-II) attended Shooting camp held at SCD Govt. College for Boys, Ludhiana from 4th – 13th July, 2012.

Ø    Cadet Harshwinder Kaur (BA-II) attended CATC-2012 held at Ropar (Army Area) from 23rd – 30th July, 2012.

Ø    The NCC Unit of the College organized a Motivational Lecture on the scope and significance of National Cadet Corps (NCC) on 31st August, 2012. Lt. Col. Subhash Sehgal, CO, 3 Pb. Girls Bn., NCC was the resource person.

Ø    The NcC Unit in collaboration with 3 Pb Girls Bn., NCC, Ludhiana celebrated NCC Week in the college campus from 10th – 15th September, 2012. The week long camp mainly stress on eradication of social evils and laid equal emphasis on making Ludhiana a model city in terms of hygiene and civic amenities.

Ø    Sgt Ravneet Kaur attended PVSC-2 from 8th – 19th October, 2012 held at Patiala where she won a Bronze Medal in 12 Bore Shooting Competition.

Ø    NCC unit organized a Poster Making Competition on the theme Female Foeticide and Drug Deaddiction in collaboration with 3 Pb. Girls Bn., NCC, Ludhiana on 3rd November, 2012.

Ø    On 12th November, 2012 U/O Mansukhpreet Kaur and Sgt Amarjit Kaur were declared the best cadets during piloting function held at unit premises.

Ø    On 19th November, 2012 U/O Mansukhpreet Kaur was declared the best cadet of 2012 in a function organized by 3 Pb. Girls Bn., NCC, Ludhaina.

Ø    NCC Cadets celebrated NCC day at I Punjab R&V Sqn NCC (PAU, Ludhiana) on 23rd November, 2012 wherein Sgt. Ravneet Kaur was honoured.

SCHOLARSHIPS

            Our outstanding students were awarded a lot many scholarships in this academic session. On the occasion of 123rd Birth Celebration of Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru on 17th November, 2012 Mittal Pandey Scholarship of Rs.6000/- each was given to 8 students of the college by Hon'ble Mrs. Sheila Dikshit, Chief Minsiter of Delhi. Guru Harkrishan Education Society awarded scholarship to 17 of our students amounting to Rs.1200/- each. Under the Senior Citizenship Scheme by Nehru Sidhant Kendra Trust, Ludhiana 4 students received scholarship worth Rs.3,000/- each. On 2nd June, 2012, the Department of Alumni Relation, Panjab University Chandigarh awarded scholarship of Rs.6500/- to 2 of our students.

Youth Red Cross

                        The Youth Red Cross wing of the college remained active the year round and made a significant contribution to the noble cause of donating blood that becomes a life saver for many. The girls of the college donated 74 units of blood in this direction, in a Blood Donation Camp organized in collaboration with Deepak Hospital, Ludhiana this year.

Red Ribbon Club

                        The Red Ribbon Club of the college worked laboriously to spread awareness against the deadly disease AIDS by organizing various extension lectures, seminars, camps and competitions.

Anti-Ragging Cell

In view of the state of ragging incidents in the country, an Anti-Ragging Cell was formed that consistently makes efforts to maintain cordial and harmonious environment in the college campus.

Eve Teasing Cell

Realizing the urgent need of the hour, an Eve Teasing Cell has been formed to prevent any molestation of the innocuous girls of the college. The Cell organizes awareness campaign in the campus on regular basis to fight eve teasing.

Excursions & Educational Visits

Ø    A day loaded with fun and frolic was experienced by the students from the PG Dept. of Commerce and Management on their visit to Wonderland and Rangla Punjab on 18th August, 2012.

Ø    A trip to Pushpa Gujral Science City and Rangla Punjab was organized on 12th September, 2012 for students of B.Sc. (Hons) Biotechnology.

Ø    Students of PGDCAF, Dept. of Biochemistry and Dept. of Industiral Chemistry visited Central Research Institute, Kasauli on 15th September, 2012.

Ø    Students from the PG Dept. of Science visited the holy shrines of Mata Naina Devi and Sri Anandpur Sahib on 22nd September, 2012.

Ø    PG Dept. of Science organized a one day trip to Fun City, Cactus Garden, Mata Mansa Devi and Sri Nadha Sahib on 27th September, 2012.

Ø    Twelve students and two councilors attended a two day camp at Sri Anandpur Sahib organized by the Red Cross Society, Chandigarh to celebrate the Birth Anniversary of Bhai Ghanaiya Ji on 20th – 21st September, 2012. Manmeet Kaur of MA-I (English) won 3rd prize in poster making competition.

Ø    The councilors of IGNOU attended an Orientation Lecture for academic councilors organized at Khanna from 29th – 30th September, 2012.

Ø    Students of M.Sc. (Biotechnology) visited Sophisticated Analytical Instrumentation Faculty (SAIF), PU Chandigarh on 18th October, 2012.

Ø    The student of the college had a gala time in a five day trip to the Pink City – Jaipur from 24th – 28th October, 2012.

Festival & Functions

Ø    To commemorate the Martyrdom of the dignified Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji, chhabeel  was organized on 28th May, 2012.

Ø    To commence the academic Session with the blessings of the Almighty God, Akhand Path of Sri Guru Granth Sahib was organized from 23rd – 25th July, 2012.

Ø    With the advent of the eagerly awaited monsoon, Teej Festival was celebrated in the college on 9th August, 2012 wherein the campus was decorated with various antique articles like Bagh, Phulkari, Charkha, Pakhis, Chhaaj and Daris.

Ø    Jovial smiles and high spirits marked thewelcome parties organized in the college from 28th August – 1st September, 2012.

Ø    To pay homage to the phenomenal teacher, Dr. Radhakrishnan, the students and the staff celebrated his birthday as Teachers’ Day on 5th September, 2012.

Ø    A special function to honour Garima Chaudhary, the adroit Judoka who represented India at the legendary London Olympics, 2012 was organized on 19th November, 2012.

Ø    The Silver Jubilee Wedding Anniversary of Mrs. Nachhattar Kaur, Lecturer in Public Administration was celebrated with much enthusiasm and incitement in the college on 20th December, 2012.

Ø    To celebrate the successes and accomplishments of the previous year and to welcome the New Year a get-together was organized on 20th December, 2012.

Ø    The Annual Athletic Meet of the college was organized

Ø    Mr. Prem Gupta, Secretary, Dayanand Medical College & Hospital, Ludhiana and Chairman S.T. Group of Industries, Ludhiana  inaugurated Annual Athletic Meet on 15.1.2013 and Mr. Yurinder Singh Hayer, IPS officer of 1999 batch. He is presently occupying the prestigious chair of SSP Jalandhar (Rural).  presided over the closing ceremony on 2.2.2012.

Ø    Mr. Sunil Jakhar, Leader of the Opposition in Punjab Vidhan Sabha presided over the Annual Prize Distribution Function held on 5.2.2013.

Ø    Dr. S.S. Chahal, Vice Chancellor, Desh Bhagat University, Mandi Gobindgarh, Punjab presided over Fashion Flora ’13 on 9.2.2013.

Ø    The Old Students Meet organized by the Alumni Association on 15.2.2013 was presided over by S. Gurbir Singh, President, Guru Nanak Education Trust. ___ Distinguished Alumni who have made it big in life were honoured.

Ø    The Convocation-2013, the biggest event of academic career was held on 16.2.2013. Mr. Manish Tiwari, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge), Minister for Information & Broadcasting was the Hon’ble Chief Guest. 373 PG degrees, 468 Graduate degrees, 79 College Colour and 23 Roll of Honour were awarded to distinguished students.
