The college remained
abuzz with activity and packed with fun and frolic, colour and
vivacity. The cultural scene was vibrant and marked with gaiety.
The Superannuation Party was arranged to bid adieu to Mrs. Kanwaljit Kaur Dua, Associate Prof. in Punjabi on 22nd April, 2011. Realizing the importance of this dictum in today’s world, where alongwith academics, one has to be a super performer in other curricular activities as well, a group of highly eminent artists headed by Mahua Shankar and Nupur Shankar, Kathak Dancer and Vocalist respectively visited the college on 30th May, 2011. The Chief Guests of the function were Dr. B. S. Shah, Medical Supdt., Dayanand Medical College and Hospital and Dr. S. M. Bhatti, Principal, Christain Medical College and Hospital. Mrs. Neelam Dhanda Kapoor, organizer of a renowned NGO and Dr. Surjit Singh Mahal, Professor of Agronomy, P.A.U., Ludhiana were the Guests of Honour on the function. Dr. Charanjit K. Mahal welcomed the celebrious artists and laid stress on the importance of dance and art in the life of the students. She also briefed about the achievement of the renowned artist Mahua Shankar and stated that she belongs to the new generation of highly talented Kathak performers and teachers. A meeting of the Principals of Panjab University and Guru Nanak Dev University was held at the college campus on 5th June, 2011. To commemorate the Martyrdom of the dignified Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Arjan Dev ji, Chabeel was organized on 11th June, 2011. To start off the new Academic Session with the blessings of Almighty, the ‘Akhand Path’ of Sri Guru Granth Sahib was organized from 25th – 27th July, 2011. Two Book Exhibitions were organized in the college campus by Gurmat Pustak Centre and U.S.G. Publishers from 10th – 12th August and 23rd – 24th August, 2011 respectively. The students had a gala time as the fun filled and sumptuous Ms. Fresher-cum-Welcome Functions were celebrated in the college campus from 17th – 20th August, 2011. Preetika of B.Sc. Ist (Biotechnology) participated in Bal Quiz Competition held at Punjabi Bhawan on 22nd August, 2011 and bagged the third position. To pay homage to the phenomenal teacher, Dr. Radhakrishnan, the students and the staff celebrated his birthday as Teachers’ Day on 5th September, 2011. A declamation contest was organized under the wise aegis of Ved Prachar Mandal in the college on 5th September, 2011. It was sheer fun and talent hunt for the students of Fashion Designing Dept. as they participated in Hand Made Raakhi Competition organized on 12th August, 2011 using sequins, stones, beads and decorative threads and weaves. To promote the punjabiyat and its rich inheritance, the adroit artists of the forthcoming movie, “Yaar Anmulle” visited the college on 26th September, 2011. Dept. of Beauty and Culture observed “World Heart Day” on 29 September, 2011 by organizing a workshop on the topic, Wellness at the workplace: The campaign focused on the Significance of Healthy Eating & Physical Activity for a Healthy Heart. 16 S.C., 14 O.B.C., 64 from Sikh Minority and 5 students entitled to Riots Scholarship were awarded Rs.4700, Rs.3000, Rs.5000 and Rs.870 respectively by the Post Matric Scholarship Scheme for Minority Community, Punjab Govt. A one day National Seminar on Changing Role of Women in Colonial and Post Colonial Punjab was organized by P.G. Dept. of History on 30th April, 2011. Wherein the Resource Persons were, Dr. Rajiv Lochan, Chairperson and Dr. Richa Grewal, Prof, Panjab University, Chandigarh and Dr. Muhammad Idris, Assistant Prof., Punjabi University, Patiala. The interactive session proved to be a successful one as it satiated the intellectual urge of one and all. On 1st September, 2011, Wing Commander Amol Apte, (A post-graduate in Physics & Optical Electronics and the Head of Metereological Dept.), enlightened the students regarding various career options in the Indian Air Force and delivered an illuminating discourse on the topic ‘Awareness about Career Opportunities in IAF’. A Workshop on the topic, Maintenance of Fabric was organized on 6th September, 2011 by the Dept. of Fashion Designing wherein practical knowledge was imparted to the students. A Seminar on Personality Development was organized by Gurmat Committee on 30th August, 2011. The Resource Person, Sh. Satnam Singh from Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle emphasized the need for the development of all round personality of the students. A Workshop on Dance was organized by Dance Dept. from 2nd – 11th August, 2011 wherein Padam Shree Awardee and renowned Bhawai Dancer, Guru Roop Singh Shekhwat familiarized the students with various forms of dance like Ghoomar, Chari and Kaalbelia. To acquaint the students of M.Com with practical aspects of business, a visit was arranged at Ludhiana Stock Exchange on 19th September, 2011. A workshop on Quelling an Fabric was organized by the Dept. of Fashion Designing on 29th September, 2011 wherein an expert team from Pidilite Company enlightened the students about the technicalities of quelling and fabric painting. Two students of our college attended 10 Day Camp held at Dr. Y.S. Parmar, University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, Solan from 26th June – 5th July, 2011 organized by Dept. of Youth Welfare, Panjab University, Chandigarh. Reetika attended Basic Youth Leadership Training Camp and was adjudged best in discipline. Jatinder Pal Kaur attended Rock Climbing Camp and was adjudged best candidate in Rock Climbing.
